Exams: There will be three exams. Exams will be composed of a combination of multiple choice and short answer questions.
Quizzes: Quizzes will be once a week online available all day Tuesday and Wednesday. Many of these questions will form the basis of questions on exams. I will allow each student 2 "freebies" for occasions when they miss, or lay an egg on a quiz.
Forecasts: A class forecast blog is available at http://weatherinw.wordpress.com. Students will be contributors to this blog by posting weather discussion and forecast analysis at least twice during the semester on assigned dates. Students will have to choose a National Weather Service Forecast office located in the Inland Northwestern US as their region of interest (Spokane, Pendleton, Boise, Pocatello, Missoula). Additionally, students will have to give a weather synopsis or forecast to the class once during the semester. Grading will be based on the quality of the presentation and clarity of the science provided, rather than the skill of the forecast. Details are provided through this link. Sporadically throughout the semester will we have weather forecasting contests where extra credit points will be awarded to the top forecasters. More information is available on this here.
Assignments: Weekly homework assignments will be assigned throughout the semester. All assignments will be due Thursday by 11:59pm. Some exercises may require basic quantitative problem solving and graphing exercises. All homework assignments will be turned in via http://bblearn.uidaho.edu.
Makeup Policy: There will be no makeup quizzes or exams. If you know that you are unavailable during a scheduled exam, arrangements must be made at least 1 week PRIOR to the exam date so you can take the exam early. While I will not allow make-up quizzes, I will drop your lowest quiz score. Late assignments (not turned in on the day due) will be penalized 20% and not accepted more than 1 week late.
